Birdies For Charity Program Overview
The KC Golf Classic is a community event that contributes greatly to the economic vitality of the greater Kansas City area. The tournament also serves as a dedicated vehicle to raise money for non-profit organizations supporting children throughout the state of Missouri and Kansas.
Birdies For Charity provides Missouri and Kansas non-profit organizations with programming for children – as well as K-12 schools – with a unique opportunity to raise additional funds year-round.
How does Birdies For Charity work? The 2020 Birdies For Charity program will provide a minimum 5% match on ALL pledges made through the program up to a cumulative total of $400,000* from all charities. Matching funds will be distributed up to $100,000 in collected pledges per charity. There is no minimum amount that must be raised to receive the match. The KC Golf Classic will redistribute collected pledge funds to participating charities in May and August. Matching funds earned during the 2020 program will be paid in August 2020.
*This total may increase due to additional program sponsor, donations to the matching fund pool and fundraising.

How to become a participating charity

Either: Must have 501(c)(3) status as recognized by the IRS and a portion of the organization’s programming must target children in the State of Missouri or Kansas.
Or: A K-12 school in the state of Missouri or Kansas.
Responsibilities of participating charities
Participating organizations and their volunteers will solicit pledges of $.05 or more per birdie, or a flat donation from individuals or corporations. There is NO cost for taking part in the program. Each charity is provided with a unique donation link that can be shared with donors via their website, email and social media.
Responsibilities of KC Golf Classic
KC Golf Classic will not solicit pledges on behalf of any participating organization, but will provide:
- Online donation administration
- Pledge forms for participating organizations
- Program administration, invoicing, processing and accounting
How you can donate
Every birdie made during the KC Golf Classic means bucks for charity! Charities receive 100% of every donation collected on their behalf, plus a minimum 5% in matching funds!
You can pledge by a one-time flat donation or per birdie. The per birdie amount will be calculated based on how many birdies are made during tournament week (Thursday – Sunday) by Korn Ferry Tour professionals.
For example, a pledge of $.05 per birdie: $.05 x 1353 birdies in 2019 = $67.65
The number of birdies can fluctuate due to unforeseeable conditions.
What is a birdie?
A “birdie” is a score of one stroke better than “par” for any golf hole on the course. “Par” is the normal expected score of a golf professional on any given hole. For example, on a par 4 hole, a score of 3 is a birdie.
